Windows Server Installation
Tips for installing the BSCW server software under Windows
The BSCW server software can be installed on either Windows or Unix operating systems. Please observe the requirements for the respective platform as detailed in the following sections. The software required is available via download.System requirements
The BSCW server requires the following from your Windows Vista/2003/XP/2000 installation (hardware requirements depend on actual usage):
- Windows-based server PC
- 512 MB RAM minimum (1 GB RAM recommended)
- 30 GB hard disk space minimum
- System software
Windows (Windows 7/2008/Vista/2003/XP) with Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) or Windows (Windows 7/2008/Vista/2003/XP) with Apache Web Server for Windows - Python 2.5 or Python 2.6 (download)
- Win32 Extensions and API for Python (download from sourceforge.net)
- note: choose a pywin32-nnn.win32-pyX.Y.exe that matches your Python version
- note: a build#210 or later of Win32 extensions is requrired!
- access to a SMTP daemon (Unix or Windows based)
Installing the BSCW server software under Windows
The BSCW server software operates on Windows systems (Windows 7/2008/Vista/2003/XP) and requires either a Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS6 or IIS5) or an Apache web server (version 2.0 or 2.2). The Python interpreter is also required (version 2.6 or 2.6).
To install the server software under Windows, please complete the following steps:
- (Windows 2003/XP/2000) Install the Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) via the Control Panel, Software/Add Windows Components
or
Install the Apache server (version 2.2 recommended) - Install the Python interpreter. Software required: Python (version 2.5 or 2.6) for Windows and the Win32 extensions (build#210 or later).
- Install the BSCW server (Windows). The software is available via download.
Important Notes
To take advantage of the WebDAV functionality within BSCW, an Apache HTTP server (version 2.0 or later) is required. The Apache HTTP server is copyrighted, but distributed under an open source licence making it free to use. It can be downloaded from the Apache HTTP Server Project web site.
Python and the Win32 extensions are also copyrighted, but distributed under an open source licence making them free to use. Python can be downloaded from the Python web site and the Python Win32 extensions from the pywin32 project on SourceForge.
